Marcos is third match on Centre Court today, not before 5:00pm.
It's gonna being tough. This year, el mosquito recaptured his focus and consistency and enjoys considerable success; he's still seen as a big scalp for his rivals.... there's a couple more years - as he said in an interview at Queens - until he starts focussing on his enterprises other than tennis (hotel and academy)...
Vamos!

Arnaud Clement is up next. Vamos! ========================================== www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2009/10/Stockholm-Thursday-Rochus-Fights-Back-To-Upset-Lopez.aspxBaghdatis Continues Good RunStockholm, Sweden by ATP Staff | 22.10.2009Former World No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis continued his good run by reaching the quarter-finals of the If Stockholm Open with a sweeping 6-2, 6-2 victory over American Robert Kendrick Thursday at the ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard-court tennis tournament in the Swedish capital. The Cypriot, who won an ATP Challenger Tour title in Tashkent last week before knocking out third seed Juan Carlos Ferrero in the first round Wednesday, capitalised on all five break points he created to seal victory after just 53 minutes. The 24-year-old Baghdatis will contest his third ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season after improving to a 21-16 mark. Three ATP Challenger Tour titles in the past three months have seen the Limassol native jump 85 places in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings since July to his current position of No. 66. "I'm feeling fit, which is the most important thing," said Baghdatis, who was hindered by injuries throughout much of 2008. "When you wake up in the morning and you don't feel any pain, it's easier to play good tennis. I'm having a good run now and enjoying myself on the court. I'm hungry to do well and I want to come back stronger than before."Next up for Baghdatis, who will look to reach his first ATP World Tour semi-final since February 2008 at the Open 13 in Marseille (l. to Ancic), is Frenchman Arnaud Clement, who held his nerve to beat fellow qualifier Michael Berrer 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-1. Coming into Stockholm, Clement, who, like Baghdatis, is a former Australian Open finalist, had not won a tour-level match since reaching the second round at Roland Garros (l. C. Rochus).

Marcos defeated Clement 6-4 6-4 to reach semis. Robin Soderling is up next. Vamos! ================================================= Here's Cheryl's preview. By the way, I miss Cheryl... she rarely posts on mtf lately... tennistalk.com/en/previews/20091024/Soderling_and_Baghdatis_clash_in_semifinalsSoderling and Baghdatis clash in semifinals10/24/09 3:51 AM | Cheryl MurrayNewly resurgent Marcos Baghdatis will take on hometown hero Robin Soderling for a spot in Sunday’s final. Marcos Baghdatis has pretty much had a disastrous year in 2009. The Cypriot has fallen a long way since he made the final of the Australian Open back in 2006. His ranking has fluctuated drastically in the time since. Baghdatis made a foray into the top 10 (in 2006) and he has also careened out of the top 100 (this year). His ranking is on the way up again, however. He currently sits at No. 66 and he shows all the signs of moving into the top 50 at any time. Robin Soderling is the Swedish hero that forged all the way to the finals of the French Open, beating clay court master Rafael Nadal along the way. His US Open performance was not quite as impressive, but he has still done well enough to make at least the quarters of every tournament he has entered this fall. The Swede is ranked No. 10 at the moment. Soderling has a distinct edge on paper. His form has been consistently impressive over the past few months, and he is playing in front of his countrymen. Still, an on-form Baghdatis is fierce competition. The Cypriot has the abitlity to compete with the very best in the world when he is playing well – which he is. Expect a tough match, no matter the outcome. Soderling will probably win in 3 sets, but a Baghdatis upset would not be completely unexpected.

Marcos has everything to gain from this semi today, and certainly nothing to lose. He's proved that he can defeat anyone when he's 100% fit and confident. So let's wait and see what happens. Good luck!! The semi is not before 3PM on Centre Court.

Marcos won a walkover due to Robin’s elbow injury. I’m highly disappointed at lost opportunity for him to face a tough opponent, it would have been a very intense battle… to snap himself out of this season funk, Marcos must defeat its purpose… tough luck for Marcos, even tougher for Robin… Get well soon, Robin. Marcos will play Oli Rochus in the final. Vamos!

www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2009/10/Stockholm-Saturday-Baghdatis-Rochus-Into-Final.aspxBaghdatis To Face Rochus In Stockholm Final; Soderling Injured Stockholm, Sweden
by ATP Staff | 24.10.2009Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis will meet Olivier Rochus of Belgium in the If Stockholm Open final on Saturday. It will be the pair’s first meeting since May 2006 at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, which Baghdatis won 7-5, 6-4. Both players will be appearing in their seventh tour-level singles final. Baghdatis progressed to his first final since 17 June 2007 at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle (l. to Berdych) without hitting a ball on Saturday. His semi-final opponent, top seed Robin Soderling of Sweden, withdrew prior to the pair’s sixth meeting with a right elbow injury. This week Soderling was contesting his first ATP World Tour tournament as a member of the Top 10 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings. He is battling to clinch one of two remaining spots at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November. The 25 year old is next scheduled to compete at the Valencia Open 500. “I’m sorry for Robin first of all,” said Baghdatis. “It’s not easy to retire, especially when you're playing at home. But obviously I'm happy to get through to the final. “I need some points and my ranking is not so good right now. I knew it would not have been an easy match for me today. He was the favourite, playing with the home support and indoors. So I'm just happy to get through." Rochus withstood 17 aces from the racquet of Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci for a 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 24 minutes on Saturday. Rochus won 73 per cent of service points and saved two of six break points to improve to a 13-6 match record on the year. Bellucci,21, captured his first ATP World Tour title at the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad in August (d. K. Beck). He became the first Brazilian to win an ATP World Tour title since Ricardo Mello at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships on 19 September 2004. He also finished runner-up at Costa do Sauipe (l. to Robredo) in February. He dropped to a 21-18 season record. "Rochus is playing great,” admitted Baghdatis. “He came through qualifying. He's a good friend of mine and we've warmed up together every day this week. It would be nice to play a friend in the final." Baghdatis, 24, won his last ATP World Tour title at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors (d. Ljubicic) on 4 February 2007. This week he is coming off his third Challenger title of the season last Sunday in Tashkent where he beat local favourite Denis Istomin in three sets. 'When you are out for eight months because of injury, it's not easy to win matches,” said Baghdatis, who reached a career-high No. 8 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings on 21 August 2006. “For sure I had my doubts about being able to come back. I'm really hungry to do well again now. I am going to do everything I can to achieve my dreams - to win Grand Slams and get back into the Top 5 or Top 10. "I've had to accept being ranked down at 150 and I've gone to play some challengers, to try and win some matches and get the confidence back up again. Tashkent last week was very hard. But it's good to go back to where it all began and remember how tough the challenger tournaments are. "I'm working a lot more on my physique now, trying to be fit every week so that I can enjoy my tennis. After this week I'll go home for a week and then I'll be going to South Korea to play some more challengers." ======================================================== Looks like that Marcos is a bit confused about his schedule. Had he enjoyed a week holidays, then he would have had to play one challenger in South Korea, not challenger s. In any case, he has much work to do to improve his physique... Way to go, Marcos. Find out how active you need to be to stay healthy.

It's sad for Robin, being forced to give up, especially at home. Hope it's not too serious and that he can be back on court soon.
But hey, I'm happy about Marcos reaching his 4th final of the year, and no challenger this time. Go for it Marcos!

Baghdatis Wins Third ATP World Tour Title in Stockholm; 10th Unseeded Winner In 2009 Stockholm, Sweden by ATP Staff | 25.10.2009
Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis lifted his first ATP World Tour title since February 2007, after defeating Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-1, 7-5 at the If Stockholm Open on Sunday. Baghdatis became the 10th unseeded winner of the ATP World Tour this year and the first since Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil won at the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad on 2 August.
World No. 66 Baghdatis earned €93,000 in prize money and won 250 South African Airways 2009 ATP Ranking points, while Rochus pocketed €49,000 and 150 points.
Baghdatis, who won his third ATP Challenger Tour title last week at Tashkent (d. Istomin), made a confident start in his seventh ATP World Tour final.
The 24 year old converted his third break point opportunity in the fourth game and his decisively broke in the sixth game. He won 66 per cent of service points and hit eight aces in the 40-minute first set.
The pair exchanged service breaks at the start of the second set and again in the sixth and seventh games. Baghdatis, who beat Rochus 7-5, 6-4 at the 2006 Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, broke serve for the fifth time in the 11th game and went on to wrap up victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
Baghdatis won 62 per cent of service points, hit 15 aces and saved four of six break points. It was his third ATP World Tour trophy (3-4 lifetime) and first since 4 February 2007 at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.
The former World No. 8 (21 August 2006) improved to a 23-16 match record on the year. Rochus, 28, dropped to 3-4 in ATP World Tour finals and to 13-7 this year. It was his first final appearance since 30 September 2007 at Mumbai (l. to Gasquet). www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2009/10/Stockholm-Sunday-Baghdatis-Wins-Title.aspx
