www.abnamrowtt.nl/main.cfm?pers_id=316&lang=1&c_id=91&site_id=9&main_id=91Baghdatis Bounces Murray 09/02/2011 Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis handed World No. 5 Andy Murray his first opening-round loss in 11 months on Wednesday evening as he defeated the Briton 6-4, 6-1 at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. Murray was playing his first match since finishing runner-up in a Grand Slam final for the third time, falling to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, and made a strong start to the match as he raced to a 3-0 double break lead. The Scot could not maintain his level, though, and an improved Baghdatis was quick to take advantage of the increased errors from Murray, reeling off 12 of the next 14 games to clinch victory in 61 minutes. The 25-year-old Baghdatis, himself a runner-up at the Australian Open (l. to Federer) in 2006, recorded his 17th victory over a Top 10 player and improved to a 3-1 career lead over Murray.

Big Win For Marcos In Rotterdam Opener
Straight-sets win over Murray...Marcos recorded his 17th win over a Top 10 player on Wednesday evening as he ousted World No. 5 Andy Murray 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. Hot off a run to the Australian Open final, Murray started the match well and raced to a double break 3-0 lead in the first set. Asked later if he thought the set was over at this stage, Marcos assured the on-court interviewer he always believed he could fight back and did just that as he capitalised on a spate of errors from Murray to level at 4-4. With Marcos settling into his game, and mastering the fast conditions the better of the two players, he then clinched the first set with a third break of Murray’s serve in the 10th game as the Scot netted a forehand. Support Marcos on FacebookMarcos continued to raise his level in the second set and a driven backhand winner sealed a break of Murray’s serve to love in the fourth game. He then reeled off the final three games to seal victory in just over an hour. "I always try to fight and find a solution to win, Andy played good at the start, I had to break the rhythm, he began making mistakes and lost concentration," said Marcos. "I finished it off and I'm very happy. He could be tired from Melbourne, when I played the final in Australia, I was in bed for a week, it's tough to come back. I took my chances today, bad luck for him." For a place in the quarter-finals, Marcos will face Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez, who defeated Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day. The match is scheduled to take place third on Centre Court on Thursday, with play for the day beginning at 11am local time (12pm Cyprus, 10am GMT, 5am ET). Check out the full order of play here. www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/02/6/Rotterdam-Thursday-Berdych-Passes-Tursunov-Test.aspxLjubicic Too Strong For Paire Rotterdam, The Netherlands by ATP Staff | 10.02.2011Seventh seed Ivan Ljubicic had too much experience for Benoit Paire as he dismissed the French qualifier, 10 years his junior, 6-0, 6-4 in 63 minutes. The Croatian broke serve five times from six opportunities and won 18 points more than Paire, who, a day earlier, had defeated Gilles Simon in the first round. The 31-year-old Ljubicic is a two-time finalist in Rotterdam, finishing runner-up in 2005 (l. to Federer) and 2007 (l. to Youzhny); he was also a semi-finalist in 2002 (l. to Henman). The right-hander next will face Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who backed up his first-round upset win over Andy Murray by dismissing Spanish left-hander, Feliciano Lopez, 7-6(3), 6-3 in 80 minutes. “This match was a tricky one,” reflected Baghdatis. “Beating Murray and then playing Lopez, a player that doesn’t give you rhythm, serves well and likes to play in these conditions. What I did well today was take my chances in the tie-break and in the second set, the same thing.“Ivan is a great player,” added the Cypriot, who has a 4-1 record over Ljubicic. “He’s playing great tennis. He serves well. I’ll try to continue the way I’m playing, stay concentrated, be aggressive at the important points and I think I have the weapons to win.”

Marcos Marches On In Rotterdam
Lopez falls in the second round...Marcos backed up his impressive first-round win over World No. 5 Andy Murray by dismissing Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez 7-6(3), 6-3 on Thursday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. The first set was dominated by serve, with Marcos winning 95 per cent of points behind his first serve and Lopez 87 per cent. Neither player yielded a break point and it was in the decisive tie-break that Marcos pulled away, hitting a backhand down the line pass to earn a mini-break before benefiting from a forehand error from Lopez to clinch the set. Marcos earned the first break points of the match in the fourth game of the second set, stepping in to hit a backhand pass off the return, and he converted his second chance as another rifling return forced the error from Lopez. He then went on to seal victory on serve in the ninth game after 80 minutes. Support Marcos on Facebook“This match was a tricky one,” said Marcos. “Beating Murray and then playing Lopez, a player that doesn’t give you rhythm, serves well and likes to play in these conditions. What I did well today was take my chances in the tie-break and in the second set, the same thing.” For a place in the semi-finals Marcos will face seventh seed Ivan Ljubicic, against whom he has a 4-1 career lead. “Ivan is a great player,” said Marcos. “He’s playing great tennis. He serves well. I’ll try to continue the way I’m playing, stay concentrated, be aggressive at the important points and I think I have the weapons to win.” The match is scheduled to take place on Centre Court on Friday, beginning not before 12:30pm local time (1:30pm Cyprus, 11:30am UK, 6:30am ET).
