We all have discovered about him. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here!! But when was it? And most of all, what made us a fan of his?

Well i think most of us discovered Marcos on last years Australian Open. He played fantastic tennis and knocked out many players of the top 10, only to loose in the final by Roger Federer. The things we love about Marcos is his passion when playing tennis, his big smile and the fun he offers when watching him playing!

Welcome to the board Dimitri. You beat me to it, as I was thinking I had to show example here!! ;D Anyway, you're right. Most of us have probably discovered about Marcos during the AO 06.
Personally, I had heard about him before. But the 1st time I saw him play was in Basel 05. And I imediately have been impressed by the game, but most of all, the joy that young guy has to play tennis. He's so expressive on a tennis court!! That was amazing. I admit I hadn't seen any player have so much fun on a tennis court since Noah......I mean, he likes to share his passion of the game with the crowd, and I can't resist it. I thus kinda fell for him, and have been following him ever since that time.

I remember him from the juniors, when he was a rival of Gasquet's for the junior Slams in '02. He always looked way too old to still be playing in the juniors, LOL I first saw him play when ESPN was forced to show this...force of nature at the AO last year. He always looks so happy, which is a welcome change from most players' on court demeanor.

I've already heard of him before and saw him featured on Eurosport but I saw Marcos with my own eyes when I went to Roland Garros in spring '05, he played against Nalbandian and won the first set, 6-0. He was pretty awesome! Everything he hit back to David turned to gold. I particularly liked his jumping forehand, he's like a little Mercury, and what i enjoyed about him was how he was enjoying playing. He had a bunch of fans supporting him who were loud, and he was enjoying every moment he was on court. Well, Nalby came back on the second set and eventually won that match, but Marcos won my admiration.

I'd heard about Marcos in the Athens OG as well, but wasn't following tennis very closely then. The next time I noticed his name was at RG 2005. I began getting back into the day-to-day results later that year, so was hearing his name a l ot through the autumn. But it wasn't til AO last year that I saw him play and started learning so much about him. I like his style of play, but like choupi said, it's the joy he shows on court that really made him a favourite for me. The excitement he manages to build in the arena is incredible, and at the major tournaments at least, he really seems to have a feeling and appreciation for the great moments he is in, like AO and against Agassi at USO.

First of all, greetings to all. I am Marcos' fan from Slovenia and I started to root for him in Basel 2005! The reason is kinda bizarre as I won a bet on him (easy win against Haas). I placed bet for fun due to my friend telling me, that in tennis there are a lot of surprises. But this was only start...when I realised how jolly&positive "smiling machine" Marcos is in Melbourne 2006, I became Bagotard for good. I follow every match on TV or livescore, I try to find as much news as I can and post in his message board @mtf. I like his optimistic (somethimes religious) attitude, I also love to see him boosting by hitting his chest with a fist and I hope he will never lose unique sense for humour. Marcos Baghdatis, with you 'till retirement!!! P.s.: I would like greek users to teach me some rooting slogans (in greek of course) so I could support Marcos when at home.

Welcome along Hrastar!! Thanks for sharing with us how you discovered about Marcos and what made you a fan of his. As for the request about some Greek words or expressions, I think that Getta or Christos can help you with that.

Nice to see you here, Hrastar. I'll PM you the expressions you want. Not all of them are appropriate for a public forum.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Getta. I am Greek and live in Athens. I started rooting for Marcos when i saw him playing at Wimbledon 2006 semis. It happened accidentally because I didn't care for Marcos (Rafael Nadal was the guy I was interested in). Since then Marcos Baghdatis is one of my favourite tennis players. In fact, he is the first athlete from Greece or Cyprus I am rooting for (team sports that interested me are included).
