Marcos will play the Davis Cup tie this weekend for Cyprus, against Portugal. The tie will be held at the National Tennis Centre in Nicosia, on hard court outdoor. Players in the official Cypriot team: Marcos Baghdatis, Photos Kallias, Demetrios Leontis, Philippos Tsangaridis. Captain : Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou. Players in the official Portuguese team: Frederico Gil, Rui Machado, Leonardo Tavares, Joao Sousa. Captain: Petro Cordeiro. After a nerve-breaking five set match that lasted nearly four hours, our team made the critical step towards gaining the tie, winning 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, taking the lead in the tie with 2 wins to 1. "......I express my very big thanks towards the two players....they played one of their best tennis....I have to note that the effort they exhibited was extremely high....they worked well as a team, especially in the fourth and the final set where they took full control of the match...it is a very big day for Cyprus tennis...to the fans, I express my gratitude, they were great and I thank them for helping our team win this important match...however, nothing ended today..we still have two important matches tomorrow and we invite all the fans to come at the National Centre to support our team..." captain Hadjigeorghiou stated at the press conference. Our Champion although being down in the second set 5-3, gave no chances to the Portuguese player and broke his serve twice to win the set by 7-5. At the end of the match the whole team entered the court and our National Anthem was heard in the stadium. ".....I am really proud playing in front of such a crowd....they were great and I express my thanks to all the people who came out here to support me....I think I played very well today and I found the solutions needed to make me win and secure the victory for our team....it is one of the best moments playing Davis Cup for my country....I express also my gratitude to all the other members of the team......"
