Hi. I was at Queens today, and have been asked to post my thoughts about the match between Marcos and James Ward here, so here goes......... First - it was a simple, easy and straightforward win - which is always nice. In many ways I think James Ward was a good opening opponent for Marcos, because Marcos is obviously lacking in match practice and confidence right now, and without wishing to be cruel, James is not a star, or top player, so playing him allowed Marcos to get used to the grass and the Centre Court without any pressure. Marcos started rather nervously - he served a double fault in the first game of the match, and seemed to be having problems moving on the grass. He was quite tentative and his serve was not very high quality. Throughout the match he served a few double-faults and also some foot-faults, which are never good to see. However, James was nervous playing "at home" in London, and made many unforced errors, which gave Marcos the confidence to experiment more and try more variety in his game, and he came out an easy winner:) He was using the dropshot quite well I thought, and there were stillfl ashes of the "old Marcos" from a few years ago, though he needs to work a lot harder in myopinion, especially on his volley and his serve, which doesn't seem to have much power for a top player these days. Queens is never an easy play to play - there is very little atmosphere, and the crowds are deathly quiet, and I think Marcos was finding it hard to focus and keep the adrenalin flowing. He looked over to his Coach a lot (seemed like after almost every point) - which I feel maybe shows he is still lacking a lot in confidence and self-belief and wants some kind of affirmation or support. He seemed happy at the end though and always has a smileon his face for fans

You are welcome girls. I have no particular plans to return to Queens this week because of work commitments, but if Marcos should play a really late match (after 5.00pm or 6.00pm) and someone throws me a free ticket then I may go along again after work. And, if so, I will surely write here again.

Rose, match report from any match is welcome. Marcos is first match on Court 1 today. Misha is a tough opponent for just about anyone... Good luck, Marcos Well, I couldn't go to watch the match today, because they scheduled it first on court, and I couldn't leave work in time, but he lost 4-6, 6-7(3). There were no streams or TV cameras from that court, but I have been told by someone who was there, that it was a close match with lots of long rallies, and Marcos did not disgrace himself at all. He was actually a break up in the 2nd set and looked like taking the match to a final set, but, unfortunately, his lack of match fitness and sharpness let him down at the "business" end of that second set, and he let Youzhny back in. Youzhny's serve was working well, and he raced away with a fairly convinving tie-break. However, I've been told there were lots of positives coming out of that match. Sorry I couldn't be there msyelf, but hope that helps.
