tennisconnected.com/home/2010/07/22/baghdatis-looking-forward-to-hard-court-circuit/Baghdatis Looking Forward to Hard-Court CircuitJuly 22, 2010 Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus celebrates match point against Roger Federer of Switzerland during the BNP Paribas Open on March 16, 2010 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. (March 15, 2010 - Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images North America) Once ranked among the world’s elite, flamboyant Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis will once again try his hand at a successful summer hard-court swing. Currently ranked No. 26 in the world, Baghdaits owns a respectable 26-15 record on the season, which includes a victory over Roger Federer at the Indian Wells event. Riding a bad patch of four straight losses, Baghdatis told his fans on his Twitter page that he’s looking forward to his trip to LA. “Getting checked in for my flight… it’s a long trip and a transit… but [I'm] looking forward to the action in LA.!!!” Baghdatis will begin a four week schedule which will consist of tournaments in: Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Cincinnati. The former Australian Open finalist possesses a great game for hard-courts, and could become a factor for the remainder of the summer if he can gain his baseline confidence and fitness. ============================================================================== it’s about time for Marcos to get his head out of the clouds, keep his feet within ground touching distance and let his racquet do the talking.

What was the main reason for this? Our incentives have changed. At the beginning of the season, you remember that don’t you, my desire was to improve my fitness level which should have led to having some climb up to very high positions next year. When I beat Federer, my former coach and my former fitness trainer told me “top 10 this year”! They put undue pressure on me. I was affected by them. I started playing many tournaments to earn as many ranking points as I can. That’s how it was, the improvement of my physical condition was neglected. I think we made a really big mistake. The urge toward my original goal remains. I am looking ahead and focusing on improving my fitness level to be able to play my best tennis. I need to stop thinking about ranking points. according to Marcos, his victory over Federer, came too early in the season for him. Marcos well, i located an excellent blog entry that solved this issue… simply Jorge Viale on Fuebuena, you don’t need more!
it’s been translated from Spanish into English by myself. ================================================================================= www.fuebuena.com.ar/?p=785417 March 2010 Love CyprusFiled under: Info — Jorge @ 13:17While the negotiations to chat with you have picked up speed, Marcos Baghdatis polished off a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over Roger Federer in the third round at Indian Wells after saving three match points. At the end of last year, when he played la Copa Argentina, coming back from a series of injuries the Cypriot was responding in typical fashion: “I just want to stay healthy and have fun playing my game on the court”. Physical work off the court is the key to his recovery: I saw it last night when he flicked a backhand crosscourt to Federer's backhand side. This work consists of a demanding exercise routine, sometimes triple shifting per day, with his fitness trainer Horacio Anselmi at Bombonerita gym in La Boca, Buenos Aires. Anselmi told me proudly that Marcos squatted 160 kilos and Baghdatis himself counted on the Argentinian habits he had incorporated into his life. For tennis, if he didn’t come to the capital to practise, he would play at the Pilar Golf Club, at a concrete tennis court next to a football field. Eduardo Infantino, his coach, was shouting last night “come on, goddammit” while he was wearing the cap with the logo “Love Cyprus”, which is identical to the logo festooned on Baghdatis’ clothes. Next to Infantino also celebrated Anselmi and Juan Francisco Spina, a futures and challenger player who now chose to be the official sparring partner of the Cypriot. Federer team very focussed, especially Gwen Stefani Federer ended up committing 46 unforced errors and said: “Just because he beat me doesn't mean he played the match of his life”. The Swiss refused to discuss the tie-break: “I should never be in a breaker”. “Seven is my lucky number”, said Baghdatis, who had lost his first six encounters versus the No.1, including the 2006 Australian Open final.

lalegionargenta.blogspot.com/2010/07/importantes-figuras-estaran-en-la-copa.htmlWednesday 21 July 2010Distinguished figures at an exhibition event in ArgentinaDavid Nalbandian, Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis, Russia’s Marat Safin and Spain’s Carlos Moyá have confirmed their presence at the eighth Copa Peugeot de Tenis, exhibition tournament to be held between 16 and 19 December at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. All of them broke at some point into the world's top ten, Safin and Moyá in particular found themselves as occupants of No.1 position of ATP rankings. The Russian has retired from professional tennis, while Moyá was given the chance to bid farewell to tennis in Argentina, the same country where he won his first ATP title. According to informed sources, the two remaining players will be defined shortly. Nalbandian is the defending champion, who beat Baghdatis 6-4 6-4 in last year’s final. The play format is 'Super Six', with six players divided into two zones of three, a double-elimination tournament. The top players in each group advance to the final. La Copa Peugeot also relies on renovation efforts that will make it more appealing to spectators with interests other than tennis, aiming to fulfil their expectations of an attractive and entertaining session, including entertainment that can add value to the show. ==================================================================================== it’s been translated from Spanish into English by myself.all-star showcase is also advertised elsewhere: www.mdzol.com/mdz/nota/225185/mundotenistico.blogspot.com/2010/07/ya-hay-tres-confirmaciones-mas.htmlespndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1063743&s=ten&type=storyoops, just few minutes ago Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils confirmed their presence too !www.lalegionargentina.com.ar/index.php/2010/07/28/copa-peugeot-2010/marvellous exho, that! now, i’m head over heels for Buenos Aires just to see Richie, Marcos and David – my three favourite show ponies (Rafa and Muzza are my two favourite racehorses ) – in person "playing" there this coming December. on a serious note , i think it's great news. Copa Argentina is an excellent preparation for the long season ahead, and the Australian Open in particular since the climatic conditions in Melbourne are similar to those found in Buenos Aires... vamos David, allez Richie and pame Markouli

theoddsforum.com/tennis/bagh-to-his-best/Tuesday July 27, 2010 19:23 Bagh to his best?Marcos Baghdatis features in the lower half of the draw in the Farmer’s Classic in LA this week having pulled out of the Atlanta tennis championships at the last minute a week earlier. He recently reunited with Guillaume Peyre, who was Baghdatis’ coach when he reached the Australian Open final in 2006, and a highest ranking of 8. Having parted company with his coach, Eduardo Infantino and his trainer, Horacio Anselmi at the end of June, Baghdatis is looking forward to better things. He must be frustrated with his performance this year which promised much with victory in Sydney in Jan (defeated Gasquet) but has been poor in recent months. If this reunion with Peyre proves a happy one and practice has paid off the 14/1 on offer about him could look generous in a couple of rounds. He will most likely face Ryan Sweeting, the 6ft5 big serving American for starters but if he can weather the storm he shouldn’t fear the other opposition in his quarter. A likely semi against Sam Querrey would be a tough match up, but winnable. Baghdatis on his day is a world beater, so we’ll take a small interest in him each way in the Farmer’s.

www.earthtimes.org/articles/press/star-marcos-baghdatis,1407275.html IMG Signs Cypriot Tennis Star Marcos Baghdatis Posted : Mon, 02 Aug 2010 13:25:34 GMT Author : IMG Category : Press ReleaseNEW YORK, NY -- 08/02/10 -- IMG Worldwide, the premier sports, entertainment and media company, announced today that it has signed the talented and charismatic Cypriot professional tennis star Marcos Baghdatis as a client. Baghdatis, currently ranked No. 27 in the world, holds four career titles, was the runner-up at the 2006 Australian Open and a semifinalist at the 2006 Wimbledon Championships and reached a career-high ATP ranking of No. 8 in 2006. Born in Limassol, Cyprus in 1985, Baghdatis began playing tennis at the age of five with his father and his two brothers. He became the ITF World Junior Tennis Champion in 2003 and joined the ATP professional tour later that year. During 2004 and 2005 Baghdatis qualified for a number of upper-tier ATP events and at the end of 2005 became the first player from Cyprus ever to reach an ATP tour event final as a qualifier and the first Cypriot to break into the Top 100. He was honored as the 2005 Cyprus Male Athlete of the Year for his accomplishments. In 2006, Baghdatis entered the Australian Open as an unseeded player and scored an unexpected four set victory over the second-seed and world No. 3 Andy Roddick in the fourth round. He then defeated Croat Ivan Ljubicic in the quarterfinals and Argentine David Nalbandian in the semifinal en route to playing then world No.1 Roger Federer in the final. That same year he advanced to the semifinals at Wimbledon, beating Andy Murray and former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt before playing current No.1 Rafael Nadal. At the China Open, an ATP International Series event, Baghdatis defeated Mario Ancic in the final for his first career ATP tournament championship. In 2007, Baghdatis made it to the fourth round of the French Open and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the second straight year, before winning his second ATP title at Zagreb. He finished the season strong with semifinal appearances in Basel and at the BNP Paribas Masters. Baghdatis made it to the semifinals of the Open 13 in Marseille, France in 2008, won the Stockholm Open, an ATP World Tour 250 tournament in 2009 and also won three ATP Challenger Tour events that year. This year he won the Medibank International, an ATP World Tour 250 tournament and was a semifinalist at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship, an ATP World Tour 500 tournament. Baghdatis scored his biggest ever win to date by beating then World No. 1 Roger Federer in the third round of the 2010 Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Baghdatis will be managed by IMG agent Carlos Fleming. ======================================================================== so now Marcos will create strong bonds with the Nick Bollettieri academy in Florida and his agent is Carlos Fleming. if i'm not mistaken Carlos Fleming is the Williams sisters' manager and also James Blake's.
hmmm, French influence ebbs away after 10 years, and after a short Argentine interlude, now Marcos is becoming Americanised, and that's going to be quite interesting.

who's Carlos Fleming? there you go, Marcos. www.sportsagentblog.com/2008/08/28/agent-spotlight-carlos-fleming/Agent Spotlight: Carlos FlemingThis entry was posted on Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 10:00 am, by Jason Wulterkens.A former top-ranked college player in the early 90s for the University of Kansas, Carlos Fleming hung up his racket after a short-lived professional career, and wondered, what now? Returning to his hometown in Cleveland, Fleming enrolled in a JD/MBA program at Case Western, and also sought any opportunity he could to meet people associated with IMG, the mega-agency conveniently headquartered nearby. Fleming’s informal networking eventually lead to a summer internship with the company in 1996, and he quickly proved his metal. Given the task of cold-calling companies to help secure a presenting sponsor for a women’s tennis tournament, Fleming called a contact of his at Procter & Gamble. Next thing he knew, he was sitting down at a table in Los Angeles helping to hammer out the deal’s details. Fleming later said that the experience convinced him of his potential to succeed in the industry. More importantly, however, it convinced some higher-ups at IMG to hire him after the summer was over. This kid produced, they reasoned. “The common thread for everyone who works in this industry is a willingness to hustle, a willingness to do whatever you have to do,” Fleming later said. Fleming is now the Vice-President of Tennis at IMG, working with both Venus and Serena Williams, as well as acting as the primary agent for the likes of James Blake (whom he signed to the company when Blake was a rising star coming out of Harvard) and Alexandra Stevenson. In the past he has worked with Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati, Monica Seles, Mark Philippoussis and Pete Sampras as his clients. But it’s Blake who is perhaps Fleming’s most prized client, if not for Blake’s own courageous come back story, but also for his willingness to trust his gut when Fleming first began to recruit him. “All agents are working as hard as they can for your best interests, but some seem to know you a little better,” Blake confided. “I couldn’t have chosen a better agent than [Carlos]. He’s legitimately one of my best friends. He works hard, but he also works very honestly, and that’s something I appreciate.” Like any enduring and successful agent, however, Fleming is constantly eyeing the future. That’s why Blake’s match Monday night in the U.S. Open against the 19-year old Donald Young, the former junior phenom and now up-and-coming professional, had to have been bittersweet. Young was once with IMG, a company that landed him lucrative deals with Nike and Head before he could even legally drive a car, and that fostered and nurtured a relationship with his family for all of his teenage years, helping them to relocate even so that they could be nearby the IMG-managed Tennis in Motion National Tennis Academy in Atlanta. But Young signed with Octagon last January, which in the world of tennis representation is like the Red Sox getting one from the Yankees. He has the look and the charisma (and the game?) to help maintain the game’s reach to valuable U.S. demographics in a sagging market always on the lookout for the next big (marketable) thing (i.e., a la Andre Agassi). IMG Tennis will survive without Young, obviously, but the loss was surely a blow to Fleming and his entire division. Time to start hustling again?

Marcos on twitter: Spending some quality time with family :-) 8:37 AM Jun 29th via TweetDeck ======================================================================== hmm, yesterday was Petros' - Marcos' elder brother - name day. so, there was much of excitement and jollification. glad to hear that Marcos enjoys a "quiet" holiday with his family. he's going through a hot phase, and Cyprus is definitely a funky place.
however, the real issue is that Marcos remains coach-less (his brother Petros is good only to keep Marcos company at Hilton's gym in Nicosia - i have nothing against Petros, but i feel you see the point i'm making).
assuming that Marcos didn't change his mind and plays Atlanta, then he should seek help from Florida's tennis academies to be fit in two weeks' time... Marcos will go through a lot during this transitional period, yet transitions can be both stressful and awesome. hehe, there you are, i knew that would happen! i posted this 32 days ago. honestly, Choupi and Christos, you ain't seen nothing yet. ;D

espn.go.com/sports/tennis/blog/_/name/espntennis/id/5430382/change-scenery-help-playersAugust 2, 2010, 11:54 AM ETChange of scenery help these players?By Ravi Ubha, ESPN.comGiven there's a three-week dead zone, at least, for most of the top players after Wimbledon, it's not a bad time to tweak entourages. For those struggling, call it a chance to get things right heading into the season's final major, the U.S. Open. However, this year has seen more alterations than in the past among the elite, led by none other than Roger Federer. Note these five changes: Roger FedererMove: Adding Paul Annacone, on a trial basis Synopsis: Annacone seems to be a good fit, for a number of reasons. He has ample experience, a laid-back, calm demeanor that Federer favors (see Severin Luthi, Jose Higueras and Darren Cahill) and worked with two of Fed's buddies, Pete Sampras and Tim Henman. As Federer nears his 29th birthday, he's lost half a step. Annacone, good at tactics and a net rusher in his time, might get Federer to go forward more instead of lingering on the baseline. If Federer's back continues to worsen, all the more reason. Shorten the points. The message from Federer, obviously, is that he's not content to sit on 16 Grand Slam titles. Even with two kids and achieving everything possible in the game, he still wants more. How impressive is that? Andy MurrayMove: Axing Miles Maclagan Synopsis: The British press reported Maclagan and Murray's consultant, former Grand Slam finalist Alex Corretja, weren't getting along. Murray didn't discuss specifics in a conference call last week, saying only that he and Maclagan differed in their view on how Murray should evolve. Maclagan won't be saying much. He was under a gag order while working with Murray and probably still is now. Cahill was quickly linked, unrealistically, with Murray. Cahill has a great gig as an analyst and roving instructor with Murray's clothing sponsor, adidas. He can maintain some sort of family life. And if he didn't sacrifice that to coach Federer last year, why would he do it for Murray? (Cahill confirmed his stance over the weekend.) Does it really matter who comes in after the U.S. Open? One of Murray's first coaches, Mark Petchey, urged the Scot to become more aggressive. It didn't happen. Years later, not much has changed. Murray is a stubborn guy. Nikolay DavydenkoMove: Spending less time with his bro Synopsis: When Davydenko said at the Australian Open his bubbly wife, Irina, could probably teach him a few things about tennis, he wasn't joking. It appears Irina will indeed spend at least some time guiding her husband as Davydenko's longtime coach, brother Eduard, works more closely with his own 17-year-old son, Philip. Imagine Irina in a tracksuit feeding balls to Davydenko in practice. Irina, according to Davydenko, did a good job motivating the baseliner on the final day of Russia's Davis Cup quarterfinal against Argentina last month. However, winning the year-end championships in London, when he downed Rafa and Roger, seems like ages ago. Back from a broken wrist, Davydenko is 5-6 in his past 11 matches. All six losses came against foes outside the top 50. Time is running out to claim a maiden major. Svetlana KuznetsovaMove: Teaming with Loic Courteau Synopsis: Courteau didn't exactly unlock Amelie Mauresmo. Yes, Mauresmo won two majors under Courteau, but, on ability, she should won many more. Still, Mauresmo is full of praise for Courteau and probably had a word or two with Kuznetsova, her friend and former doubles partner. Courteau thus returns to the women's ranks following indifferent stints with Paul-Henri Mathieu and Julien Benneteau. There's only one way to go for Kuznetsova, and that's up. Surely the two-time Grand Slam champ, an underachiever like Mauresmo, can't continue to plummet. She's down to 21st in the rankings and hasn't reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal since winning the 2009 French Open. Marcos BaghdatisMove: Cutting ties with Eduardo Infantino Synopsis: It had to happen. Baghdatis, the serial coach-swapper, ended his roughly 15-month association with Infantino and reunited with Guillaume Peyre, the man in his corner when the Cypriot reached the 2006 Australian Open final. Baghdatis, complex and talented, had this to say about Peyre on his website: "He is a sort of guardian angel and a friend as much as a coach. Guillaume and I have the same goal, and he always puts me back on course. When I play, I know that I will meet his trusting and confident gaze." Deep. Baghdatis re-established himself under Infantino but had a stinker of a grass-court season. Questions remain about his work ethic and weight. ============================================================================ so,
a tale of making the mistake of changing coaches: the man who refuses to stop drawing on his own life experiences and his... code.
