The Croatian was broken once in the fourth game as he went a set down, but responded well with two service breaks in the second set to level the match. Cilic crucially fought off eight of nine break points throughout the match, including all four he faced in the third set, and broke Baghdatis in the eighth game of the decider before serving out victory in two hours and 15 minutes. “He (Baghdatis) opened the match really good and played extremely well that first set,” complimented Cilic. “I was missing some easy balls and afterwards, when I got my rhythm back, I started to serve better. In the second set I had a high percentage of first serves and that changed the game a bit more. We both had chances in the first couple of games in the third set and then I just waited for the right opportunity to try and break.”
