The first set was characterised by high percentage of serving by both teams and the match being decided in a mind-breaking tie-breaker for our team 9-7. The second set continued at the same momentum with the Egyptians taking an early break in the beginning, however, both Baghdatis and Kallias rose to the occassion, broke back and won the set 7-5. In the third and decisive set, both of our players played extremely well, looked very confident and played very solid, took the upper-hand and gave no chances to the opponents, winning the set by 6-0. It was the crowd's turn to start celebrating inside the indoor arena with Baghdatis singing "Happy Birthday" to our Champion Photos Kallias! "...it is a great honour for me working with such a team of players...all of us together make a family and this wonderful group feeling, brings always the positive results...they were very determined today, although starting kind of slow in the beginning, they gave no chances to the opponents at the end...we look forward to the match tomorrow and hope that all the fans will join us at the Spyros Kyprianou stadium to celebrate together the victory..." noted the captain Yiannos Hadjigeorghiou at the press conference.

Our Champion gave no chances to the Egyptian who despite the pressure being imposed upon him, served extremely well and proved that he is a great fighter on court. At the end of the match, the whole team entered the arena and our National Anthem was heard in the stadium. ".....I am really proud playing in front of such a crowd....they were great and I express my thanks to all the people who came out here to support me....I think I played very well today and I found the solutions needed to make me win and secure the victory for our team....it is one of the best moments playing Davis Cup for my country....I express also my gratitude to all the other members of the team......" Marcos stated during the press conference. Portugal is up next. Marcos will have a tough job in winning the tie in Portugal. Rui Machado and Frederico Gil are not harmless clownish players… go Marcos go ! go Cyprus !
