From the ATP site: Baghdatis, Youzhny Take Parallel Paths to Quarterfinals
Marcos Baghdatis battled his way back from a set deficit on Wednesday in Munich to advance to the quarterfinals at the BMW Open with a 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 victory over German qualifier Matthias Bachinger.
The 20-year-old Bachinger, who is making his ATP-level debut this week, impressively held his own against the fourth-seeded Cypriot. Despite winning five less points than Baghdatis in the first set, he succeeded in taking the lead by winning the crucial points in the tie-break.
But Bachinger was denied the second win of his young ATP career as Baghdatis regrouped with two breaks of serve in the following sets to close out the win in two hours and 17 minutes.
Baghdatis, currently No. 19 in the ATP Rankings, advanced to the quarterfinals for the fifth time this season, but for the first time since Marseille in February. After starting the year with a 14-4 record, including the title win in Zagreb (d. Ljubicic) and a runner-up finish in Marseille, the 21-year-old had been mired in a slump following an unlucky draw that pitted him against Rafael Nadal in his Dubai opener. Prior to his victory over Diego Hartfield on Monday, Baghdatis' only two victories since February had come in Davis Cup play. www.atptennis.com/1/en/news/news5.asp

From the ATP site: Despite struggling with an ankle injury, Baghdatis squeaked out a 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win over German wild card Alexander Waske. The Cypriot looked on the brink of defeat when he faced break points at 4-4 in the second set but he held on to force a tie-break and then clinched the decisive break at 4-4 in the third set.
Baghdatis reached back-to-back finals in Zagreb (d. Ljubicic) and Marseille (l. Simon) but subsequently lost four consecutive first-round matches heading into Munich.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Baghdatis: "Waske was playing a lot of serve and volley so there weren't a lot of rallies, so I was pretty happy that I found a way to win. It was also pleasing to win with the sore ankle I have. I've had pain in the left ankle for three days and I've been working on it but it's not getting any better."www.atptennis.com/1/en/news/news5.aspI hope the ankle doesn't stop him from giving his all today.

Marcos lost 2-6 3-6. So, no dream final against Youzhny. But, it's been a great week for him, and I doubt many would have told, at the beginning of the week, that Marcos would be among the last 4. So, congrats Marcos.
