Marcos has committed to play in Sydney in January as part of his preparation for next year's Australian Open. www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/10/Features/Sydney-Baghdatis-Confirms.aspxFormer Champion Baghdatis To Return To Sydney Sydney, Australia by Press Release | 10.10.2011© Getty Images Marcos Baghdatis won the Sydney title in 2010.Former champion Marcos Baghdatis and WTA stars Samantha Stosur and Li Na today all confirmed their participation in January’s Apia International Sydney. The popular trio will join two-time Grand Slam winner and Apia International Sydney Ambassador Lleyton Hewitt at the January 8 to 14 event at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre. Cypriot crowd favourite Baghdatis, the 2010 men’s singles champion, said he was keen to return to Sydney in the hope of claiming his second Apia International Sydney title. “I won the event two years ago so I am just excited to go back there and feel the heat, get in some good matches and have some fun with the crowd,” Baghdatis said. “Sydney is definitely one of my favourite cities in the world and the fans there just love the sport and they are so relaxed and respectful. They always give me a lot of positive energy.”Tournament Director Craig Watson said Baghdatis has been a great supporter of the Apia International Sydney over the years and remains one of the event’s most popular champions. “I know Marcos was bitterly disappointed that he was unable to defend his title in 2011 because of injury so I expect him to be really determined when he arrives in Australia early in the New Year,” Watson explained. “He has been in great form recently, having made the final in Kuala Lumpur, so he will certainly be a good chance to win his fifth career title in January.” [/li][li][/sup] Watson also said that more star players, both male and female, will be added to the fields in the next few weeks. “We have a number of top 20 players on our radar and we expect to be able to make some more exciting announcements very soon.”Tickets to the Apia International Sydney 2012 are on sale through Ticketek and can be purchased online at www.ticketek.com.au or 1300 888 104. The Apia International Sydney will be held at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 January 2012. ======================================================================== [/li][li][/sup] Mr. Watson, i have to disagree with you here.
Marcos will win his fifth career title in either next week's Stockholm or in Vienna the week after...

Baghdatis entered the list while being ranked 60 - He was directly accepted but other players with higher ranking were put in the alternative list - WHY ? Is it because he is commitment player ? the official ATP entry list of Basel has been released. Swiss Indoors Basel, October 31-November 6, Basel, Switzerland

Swiss Indoors Basel, October 31-November 6, Basel, Switzerland if i'm not mistaken, Marcos is a "commitment player" because he was ranked inside the Top 30 at the end of last season. therefore the "Commitment Player Entry Exception" applies, according to which he's automatically in the main draw at any 500 event he enters.

the official ATP entry lists of Stockholm and Vienna have been released (Marcos is close to the top of the alternates' list of Vienna. should somebody pull out, Marcos will get into the main draw as a direct acceptance).1. If Stockholm Open, October 17-23, Stockholm, Sweden
2. Erste Bank Open, October 24-30, Vienna, Austria Ljubicic, Cuevas and Nishikori have already pulled out of Vienna and the direct entry dropped pretty rapidly. as expected, Marcos got into the main draw of Vienna.

Basel is Marcos' last tournament of the year as he didn't enter the qualies of Bercy. how unfortunate. Bercy is a top indoor tennis event and i will attend it again this year. already purchased tickets to watch my favourite players play. luckily enough, i have many faves.
