Marcos wins to leave Cyprus with a chance of victory
Bulgaria and Cyprus claimed one victory apiece in their Davis Cup Europe/Africa Group II Playoff match in Sofia, Bulgaria. Marcos won the first rubber of the match with resounding ease, dispatching Tzvetan Mihov 6-1 6-4 6-1. Marcos is the highest ranked player in the whole tie, and his superior talent was showcased in a professional victory.
Unfortunately, team colleague Philippos Tsangaridis was unable to follow Marcos with a victory of his own, losing to the Bulgarian number one player, Dimitar Kutrovsky 6-0 6-2 6-2.
With Marcos expected to win his next singles rubber, the doubles match increasingly looks like the battleground where the tie will be won or lost.
