Marcos dug a bit deeper and took the second set 6-4 to force a decider. his second serve was working awesome in the second set. now, he has to use his experience to avoid an embarrassing loss.

Marcos must step it up another level to beat Tommy Haas in the quarters. i much preferred Tsonga whose powerful game is somewhat predictable to Haas' unpredictable smooth old-school clean and aesthetically pleasing game. gonna be a very very tough match. Marcos, try your best !!! never let it go !!!

The 34-year-old German, a wild card entrant on his first appearance in five years at this ATP World Tour 250-clay-court tournament, dispatched World No. 5 Tsonga in just 59 minutes. Haas won 83 per cent of points behind his first serve and converted three of his four break point chances. "It's great. I can't remember the last time I beat a Top 10 player," admitted Haas. "These are the things you work for. I really didn't expect to play this well. I took my chances when I had them and it feels great to have such a nice victory once again."
Haas started the season ranked just outside the Top 200 of the South African Airways ATP Rankings after a lengthy struggle with injuries. He reached the final in Munich in 2000 (l. to Squillari) and was a semi-finalist in 2005 (l. to Pavel). Haas goes onto face eighth seed and two-time semi-finalist Marcos Baghdatis, who was made to work hard for his quarter-final berth. The Cypriot came from a set down to defeat German qualifier Dustin Brown 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 47 minutes. The 26-year-old Baghdatis is through to his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final of the year and improved to a 16-9 match record on the season. "I was very pleased with the win," said Baghdatis. "It was a very tough one. Dustin played a very good first set. He's a very unpredictable player; I didn't know what to expect. I kept pushing and I'm very, very happy I went through because it's a great mental fight."

Marcos lost 6-1 7-6(3). after being thrashed in the first set, Marcos gradually improved his game in the second set. had he kept his cool in a few important points he would have forced a decider. i think it is a very positive sign to see such close second set against an in-form so much talented Tommy Haas. on to Madrid.
