Marcos drew a tough opening round match against Moscow runner-up Viktor Troicki. given Marcos' current majestic form and his insatiable appetite for wins, i don't even have to view the full packed Basel draw.

from Marcos' official site:baghdatis.com/articles/view/marcos-defeats-troickiMarcos Defeats TroickiMarcos defeated Viktor Troicki of Serbia in three gruelling sets at the Swiss Indoors Basel today. The match took almost 2 hours and 45 minutes, with Marcos eventually triumphing 4-6 7-6(8) 6-2. The first set was a tight affair, with both players struggling to impose themselves on serve. Marcos faced eight break points against him in the set, and despite saving six of them, Troicki had enough to get a crucial break and claim the set. Marcos remained positive and increased his first service percentage, and this was essential in a second set that pushed both players to their maximum. Exceptional mental strength was evident in Marcos’ game and he held his nerve to win 10-8 in the tie-break. Riding a wave of momentum, Marcos was ruthless in taking every opportunity he created in the final set, breaking Troicki three times, with a 100% conversion rate on his break points, to wrap up the third set comfortably. Marcos will now face either Mikhail Youzhny or Michael Lammer in the next round. Follow baghdatis.com to keep informed of Marcos' progress.

Marcos won 7-6(2) 6-7(2) 6-3. didn't watch the match, but looking at some of the match statistics and the time Marcos needed to finish the job (2 hours and 40 minutes ) he will surely have to work very hard and give an inspired effort to dominate and drain any belief from Novak in the quarters. maybe a wake-up call to work on a few things, Marcos?

I agree Getta. However he won at the end and he did not loose like Youznhy or Tomic and the other swiss guy. from Marcos' official site:baghdatis.com/articles/view/marcos-eases-into-quarter-finals-1-2Marcos Eases Into Quarter-FinalsMarcos won again at the Swiss Indoors Basel, beating Michael Lammer of Switzerland in three sets. Marcos again proved his mettle by winning a close match 7-6(2) 6-7(2) 6-3. The first set was tight but the statistics show that Marcos had more opportunities, but he was unfortunately unable to capitalise on his four break points. However, he won 81% of his service points and only faced one break point against him. The second set was played in a similar fashion, but neither man was able to even force a break point resulting in another tie-break. In this case, the consistency of Lammer’s serve proved too much for Marcos. Nevertheless, the Cypriot rallied in the third set and raised the level of his game enough to nose ahead of Lammer. Marcos defended well by saving three break points whilst clinically taking his only chance to break serve. He bravely held serve throughout the set to win a place in the next round. Marcos will now face either Novak Djokovic or Lukasz Kubot, who play today on Centre Court. If Marcos does face the world number one, he will hope to improve on his Head to Head Record, which currently reads 5-0 in Djokovic’s favour. Visit baghdatis.com to follow Marcos’ progress!
