Marcos Baghdatis, special guest at the conference tomorrow
The Cypriot player will attend tomorrow the press conference dedicated to the main draw
“He has already won four titles. And now comes to Bucharest with great hopes.”
Everyone loves Marcos. A smile and has the world at his feet. For him, everything, every gesture, how small, is authentic. You feel his sincerity even when he breaks four rackets, one after another, like a rebellious child, and when he applaudes a successful point made by his opponent.
He is a former top 10 ATP player. He had a dream year in 2006, when, at nearly 20 years of age, he played the Australian Open final, being defeated by Roger Federer. In the summer, he reached the Wimbledon semifinals. Later that year he managed to be apart of the last matches of his idol, Andre Agassi. The two had an epic match in the second round, won by Agassi, but the Cypriot played his part well. His 2006 successes were a logical development of his talent.
Since he was very small, only 18 months old, Baghdatis learned what a tennis court is. He was taken there by his father, Christos, born in Tripoli in Lebanon, because he wanted him to be close to his older sons, Marinos and Petros, who attended tournaments.
Soon the small Baghdatis the best junior player in 2003. Then came the wonderful year of 2006. Number eight in the world. Then came the injuries. The years have passed and he reached the 150 rank. It was time for some changes. A new coach, diet and practice. He renounced pizza, burgers for 5 daily meals steamed and grilled.
