After playing in London, at the Queen's Club, Marcos keeps on his grass season at the Ordina Open, in the Netherlands. His work with his new coach has just started and Marcos won 1 match last week and played another one against Youzhny in which it's been pretty close. Let's hope he can win some more matches this week and keep on improving on the self confidence issue. Official site : www.ordinaopen.nl/m157/ordina-open-news.aspxMain draw should be held at 2PM local time.

Such a shame that Marcos has drawn one of the higher ranked players in a tournament where he might easily have drawn a much easier opponent. Even though Robredo is not a grass court player, he has loads of experience, and seems like a pretty rough draw indeed. I wish Marcos luck anyway.

Marcos is the last match on centre court today, not before 4:30pm. I have a good feeling about this... hope Marcos doesn't prove me wrong...
Pame, Marko!

Match preview by Kelli. www.tennistalk.com/en/previews/20090615/Ordina_Open-_Robredo%2C_Baghdatis_square_off_in_opening_round_OrdinaOpen- Robredo, Baghdatis square off in opening round 6/15/09 6:04 AM | Kelli DeMario Tommy Robredo faces a tricky opponent in Marcos Baghdatis during his first-round match at the Ordina Open. The Spaniard looks to pocket his first win over the Cypriot late Monday afternoon. Tommy Robredo is set to make his eighth appearance at the Ordina Open on Monday, taking to the court against former World No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis. The second seed has never defeated the Cypriot, trailing 0-2 in the head-to-head series. The pair last met at the 2007 Masters Series Paris, Baghdatis notching a victory in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-4. Robredo, an Ordina Open semifinalist in 2001, 2002 and 2004, lost a quarterfinals clash to unheralded Peter Wessels in 2008, 3-6, 3-6. The 27-year-old Spaniard heads into the event a solid 32-11 on the season. Robredo is two-times an ATP World Tour title winner in 2009, securing the championships in Costa do Sauipe and Buenos Aires. Baghdatis returns to the Ordina Open for the first time since his successful tournament debut in 2006. The Cypriot advanced to the final four before falling to Mario Ancic, 6-7, 3-6. The 23-year-old, continuing to claw his way back up the rankings after struggling with injury for much of 2008, has fallen out of the top 100 on more than one occasion in 2009. Baghdatis turned in a respectable showing at Queen’s Club last week, pushing eventual quarterfinalist Mikhail Youzhny to 4-6, 6-7 in the round of 32.

Marcos won!! Woohoo!!! Marcos Baghdatis has won his first match of the Ordina Open. He defeated Tommy Robredo in two sets: 7-5, 6-2.
Baghdatis was relieved after the match: “Tommy is tough, I’m very happy I won today. I was a bit stressed, because of a lot of things. I can say I’m not not in the best shape of my life. This is a big relief for me, I hope I can keep concentrated.” His next opponent is the Dutch player Raemon Sluiter. Baghdatis: “I can remember challenges we did together. He is a good guy. I’ll try to win that match and find the solution.”www.ordinaopen.nl/m157/i6060/baghdatis-defeats-robredo-in-two-sets.aspx

www.ordinaopen.nl/m157/i6181/baghdatis-injured-sluiter-in-quarterfinals.aspxBAGHDATIS INJURED, SLUITER IN QUARTERFINALS06/17/09 Raemon Sluiter is in the quarterfinals, but not in the way he would have wanted it to happen. The Dutchman leads 4-3 in the first set against Marcos Baghdatis, until the latter takes a misstep, twists his knee, falls to the ground and shouts out in pain. It is obvious that something is really wrong, the Cypriot player is not getting up. Sluiter immediately runs to the other side of the court to lend some assistance and give Baghdatis support until he is carried out of the Centre Court. Sluiter: “You simply do not want this to happen to anyone. He was really on his way. Next to that, he is a terrific guy. When this happens to you, everything comes crashing down.” Sluiter adds that he is glad he is in the quarter finals, but obviously he did not want that to happen like this.

I was watching the match and I was so happy I could see Marcos play....so when he fell down on the ground, yelling in pain, it was so painfull to see. Such bad luck after all the injuries in 2008.
Marcos, I do hope you will come back, stronger than ever, because you're so worth it.
