Marcos has committed to play in Washington: Legg Mason Tennis Classic, August 1-7, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/05/Features/Several-Players-Commit-To-Legg-Mason.aspxFish, Troicki Among Washington Commitments Washington DC, USA by Press Release | 18.05.2011Legg Mason Tennis Classic officials announced that several of the game’s marquee players, including world No. 10 Mardy Fish, have committed to play in the 2011 Legg Mason Tennis Classic presented by GEICO, joining previously announced Andy Roddick, a three-time champion in DC, and current world No. 11. They include Viktor Troicki of Serbia, Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey, 2010 runner-up Marcos Baghdatis (Cyprus), Frenchman Michael Llodra and Canada’s Milos Raonic.“We are excited that seven of the world’s Top 30 players have made early commitments to this year’s Legg Mason Tennis Classic,” said Jeff Newman, Tournament Director and Senior Vice President at Lagardère-Unlimited. “All of these players have enjoyed tremendous success on the ATP World Tour, underscoring the quality of players participating in our event.” Veteran Mardy Fish came into the 2010 Legg Mason Tennis Classic as the hottest player on tour, winning 17 of 19 matches and two titles in the run-up. While he didn’t reach the final in singles, he teamed with Mark Knowles to capture the tournament’s doubles title. Now 29, he is enjoying his highest ranking, and is currently the top-ranked American – with less than 100 points separating he and the USA No. 2 Roddick. He has continued his impressive play in 2011, reaching the semi-finals at Memphis, Delray Beach and the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. Troicki, the No. 2 Serb, improved his year-end ranking for the seventh straight year, and currently enjoys his highest ranking, at No. 16 in the world. He captured his first ATP World Tour title in 2010 at Moscow in his third tour level final (the 2008 Legg Mason was his first). His 37 match wins in 2010 was a career best, and included four semi-finals – Doha, New Haven, Tokyo and Basel. He began this year reaching the final at Sydney, and has also reached the semi-finals at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Rotterdam, the quarter-finals at Doha, and the round of 16 at two ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events (Miami and Indian Wells), but both times he was stopped by countryman Novak Djokovic. Most of these men have played the Legg Mason Tennis Classic at least once – with Baghdatis (2010), Troicki (2008) and Isner (2007) all reaching the final. However, for young Canadian Raonic, 2011 will be his inaugural appearance on the courts in Rock Creek Park. Just 20, he has burst onto the international scene, reaching his first two ATP World Tour finals at Memphis and San Jose this year, walking away with the title at San Jose. He also reached the semi-final at Estoril, and has risen from No. 156 at the start of the year to his current No. 26 ranking. Last year’s tournament marked the first career ATP World Tour final on U.S. soil for Baghdatis – who made his Legg Mason Tennis Classic debut as well. The Cypriot finished in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings Top 20 and won his fourth career title in 2010, reaching the quarter-finals or better 11 times. He was the only player to beat both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer while each was ranked No. 1.Ranked No. 21 in the world, Frenchman Llodra compiled his best season to date in 2010, earning his first Top 25 finish, two titles and a personal-high 29 match wins. He also helped his country to the Davis Cup final. He captured his first singles title on home soil in Marseille, and also won the title on grass at Eastbourne. He recently reached the quarter-finals at the Mutua Madrid Open, falling to world No. 1 Nadal, and also reached the quarter-finals at Marseille. Americans Querrey and Isner both enjoyed a tremendous 2010, each finishing in the Top 20 for the first time. Querrey was one of the year’s hottest players, winning four titles in five finals, on three different surfaces. Isner reached four ATP World Tour finals, capturing the title at Auckland. He fell to Querrey in finals at Memphis and Belgrade, but the duo teamed to win the doubles title at Memphis and reach the doubles final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. This year, they captured the title at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Rome. Ticket packages and single session tickets for the Legg Mason Tennis Classic are now on sale. Marcos To Play In Davis Cup Tie
Baghdatis key to Cypriot hopesMarcos will be part of the Cypriot team that travels to Bulgaria for the Europe/Africa Zone Group II Play-Offs on 8-10 July. There is a lot riding on the tie, particularly as the winner will avoid relegation to Group III. Cyprus has taken on Bulgaria four times in Davis Cup history, their only victory coming in 2007 when Marcos proved to be the crucial element in winning the tie for Cyprus. Cypriots will hope that Marcos can reproduce the performance he brought to his last Davis Cup tie in March 2010, where he won all three of his matches in a 3-2 victory against Egypt. Cyprus finds itself in this playoff due to a 0-5 defeat at the hands of Hungary earlier in the year, a tie in which Marcos did not play. Team Captain Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou has chosen Rares Cuzdriorean, Christopher Koutrouzas and Philippos Tsangaridis to play with the Cypriot number one, and he will hope that Marcos can inspire his colleagues to victory in this decisive tie. Marcos is the only player from either side in the tie currently ranked in the top 500, and will be confident of ensuring victory in both of his singles matches. For updates, check in on baghdatis.com

next Monday Marcos will drop at least 20 spots in the ATP rankings to No.60 at best. ( live ATP rankings: live-tennis.eu/ ) -------------------------------------------------- week: October 3-9 (two ATP-500 tournaments)A. Beijingentry deadline: August 22, 2011 Marcos will be playing in North Carolina the week starting August 22 and he will be beneath the cut-off for the main draw (last year's initial cut-off: 44) B. Tokyoentry deadline: August 22, 2011 Marcos will be playing in North Carolina the week starting August 22 and he will be beneath the cut-off for the main draw (last year's initial cut-off: 58). Marcos can make narrowly the main draw if spots open up due to the withdrawals of the main draw players, but Marcos doesn't like playing in Tokyo... he way prefers Beijing... and, i highly doubt he will play the qualies for either tournie during that week. -------------------------------------------- week: October 10-16 (Shanghai ATP-1000)Shanghaientry deadline: August 29, 2011 Marcos will be playing at Flushing Meadows the week starting August 29. depending on how deep his run in North Carolina is, he may make the main draw in Shanghai (last year's final cut-off after many withdrawals: 57). BUT, i can't imagine Miles letting him go to Shanghai without playing any warm-up tournament in Far East. ------------------------------------------ so, during the three weeks after Metz (September 26 - October 16) Marcos will most likely be trying to see the forest not the trees, so to speak.
