Monte Carlo Rolex Masters draw released
Marcos receives a tough draw in Monte-CarloThe ATP World Masters 1000 tournament in Monte-Carlo is the focus of the tennis world this week and Marcos has a potential tie against British Number 1 Andy Murray in the second round. Marcos is in the top half of the draw and will face wild card Radek Stepanek in the first round. Marcos has played Stepanek three times, and he has beaten him on two occasions. The most recent match between the pair was in 2007, at the ATP Masters 100 in Rome, a game which Marcos won in three sets. View the full draw here. If Marcos overcomes Stepanek, he will face the number 3 seed Andy Murray in the second round. Murray is currently struggling for form, having lost his previous four matches, and will be desperately trying to reverse his fortunes this week. Marcos has an encouraging 3-1 record against Murray and will be keen to test himself against the Brit again. Marcos will be hoping to improve on his performance in 2010, when he lost in straight sets to Albert Montanes in the round of 64. Stay tuned to www.baghdatis.com for all the latest news and photos from the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.

Radek Stepanek hitting with Tommy Haas at Indian Wells a couple of years ago.
incredible clean volleys there...
... and, rhythmic swing flows through Radek’s strokes...
can Marcos overcome this year's slow start and beat Radek? can he pull a repeat performance of Rome 2007 where Marcos after he thrashed Carlos Moya in the first round he beat Radek convincingly in the second round? that was a jaw dropping performance that left his fans wanting more.
yes, Marcos can adapt his exuberant shotmaking to the dirt !

No, he lost it, 6-3 1-6 6-7. He even had two match points on tiebreak but Stepanek finally got it in his 1st MP.
Marcos though left the court with a smile.

Marcos bows out of Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters
Cypriot loses to Stepanek in three sets.Three grueling sets saw Radek Stepanek overcome Marcos in Monte-Carlo on Monday to end the Cypriot’s tournament at the first hurdle. In a tense and exciting match, Stepanek’s vast experience helped him to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-6. Marcos fashioned many good opportunities for himself, particularly in the third set, where he led 4-1 in the tie-break and had two match points, but failed to convert and will rue missed chances. Marcos managed to claim control of the match in the first set, breaking in the eighth game to lead 5-3 despite having break points against him earlier in the set. Momentum shifted frequently between the two players throughout the match, but Marcos appeared to be in a strong position against the wild card Stepanek. However, the second set saw Stepanek recover himself and romp to a 6-1 scoreline. With the match appearing to be heading in Stepanek’s favour, Marcos rallied bravely and broke to lead 3-1 before forfeiting the break in the very next game. Both players continued to give it everything, and Marcos missed a number of break point opportunities, before Stepanek finally came back in the tie-break to clinch the game. This is a bitterly disappointing defeat for Marcos; his level of play was good enough to win but a number of missed opportunities meant that Stepanek progressed to face Andy Murray in the next round.
